Although a complete cure of bronchial asthma is not possible, the disease can be controlled to such an extent that it is almost asymptomatic and does not hinder everyday functioning. Thanks to early diagnosis and implementation of an appropriate treatment regimen, it is possible to prevent exacerbations of the disease, reduce and alleviate its ailments, stop the progression of the disease and avoid a permanent reduction of the respiratory system efficiency.
The treatment regimen for asthma is primarily to identify the allergenic factor and avoid contact with it, and reliever medication is used for coughing attacks and shortness of breath. Usually, it is also recommended to regularly take anti-inflammatory drugs for asthma, which are taken when it does not cause symptoms – their dosage is determined individually and depends on the severity of the disease. Drugs for bronchial asthma most often come in the form of inhalation powder in capsules or in the form of an aerosol. Some asthma medications can also be taken preventively – before exercise or the expected contact with an allergen.
However, what is very important, the systematic use of medications and effective asthma management will not always protect the patient from the occurrence of an attack of dyspnea. If bronchospasm does not subside approximately 20 minutes after taking the preparation, another dose should be administered. If the symptoms persist, and in addition, we observe a high pulse – over 100 beats per minute, cyanosis, heart pain or weakness, call an ambulance or immediately contact a doctor.
Bronchial asthma is now considered one of the most serious civilization diseases in the world, and its underestimation may lead to permanent impairment of the respiratory tract. It is true that it is not possible to cure it yet, but an appropriate diagnosis and properly selected drugs allow you to lead a completely normal, active life.
