Asthma - case study

Kate is the mother of 2 year old Hannah who has had three lung conditions; pneumonia, bronchiolitis and lives permanently with severe asthma

Kate and Hannah Crees“I can see from our one simple case how much of drain severe asthma is on the NHS. I don’t know how many children in the UK have asthma but it’s a lot. It’s sad that there isn’t much money put into children’s research.

I think it’s really good to know that there is somebody trying to look at a link to the causes of asthma. Anything where the outcome of research is better control of the condition is good because we have personally found that valuable.

Anything that can give parents clearer answers more quickly would be great. I didn’t realise until Hannah became quite ill with asthma how dangerous it is – thankfully we have never been in that situation with Hannah. I don’t know how many asthma related deaths there are a year but anything that is going to prevent that is so important.

It’s just so good to know that the British Lung Foundation is doing something about it because even if it doesn’t help Hannah or her generation it might go on to help future generations of children. Anything to make life for severe asthmatics easier would be fantastic.

When you think of the British Lung Foundation you don’t think ‘they help children’ but people just don’t realise what they do for youngsters and their families. I just think there should be more money for research.

I think the British Lung Foundation and their donors are looking out for the people that are often forgotten. It’s quite a noble thing for them to be doing really because there are many people that need help.
