More about the group

Happy 10th Birthday Breathe Easy Tunbridge Wells!

Our greatest event this year has been celebrating the 10th anniversary of the founding of Breathe Easy Tunbridge Wells. We celebrated by having a party at the Sports Centre in Southborough.

Dame Helena Shovelton, CEO of the British Lung Foundation and herself from Tunbridge Wells, very kindly came to join us. She congratulated us on our resilience, told us about some of the work that the BLF is doing at present and wished us well for the future.

Dr John Hughes, Consultant Physician at the local Chest Unit, spoke to us of the medical progress that had been made in the treatment of lung disease over the last ten years, and how he hoped local services would improve in line with other parts of the country. After the speeches, we all enjoyed the food and drink provided by the members.

Champagne and Strawberries at Garden Party

Our garden party this year was held in the beautiful grounds of Pam and Ted Olley, where we relaxed in the shade of their trees and wandered around their peaceful arboretum. As the day was very hot, it was an ideal place to be, and we were waited on by their daughter Margaret and granddaughter Katey.

Our usual fare of champagne, strawberries and cream followed by tea and cakes, was enjoyed by some 19 members. We are most grateful to Pam and Ted for making us so welcome.
