World COPD Day
Breathe Easy Thanet parked themselves in the foyer of Asda in Broadstairs to raise awareness of COPD and encourage people to take more notice of their lungs. Eric, Christine, Mike and Maggie and Iris (pictured)
handed out lung test cards and collected money throughout the day.
Thanet Outing
Breathe Easy Thanet took to the high seas on the
1 September taking members on a day trip to France.
The group enjoyed a ferry trip and had a chance to stock up on shopping.
Everyone also enjoyed the nice meal on the ferry.
Breathe Easy Thanet does Tesco's!
As part of 'Breathe Easy Week' (a week in June where Breathe Easy groups across the country raise awareness of Breathe Easy, the BLF and lung health), members from the group held an awareness stand in Tesco's supermarket in Westwood Cross.
We spoke to a number of people and also collected an impressive £113 from the public, which was made up to £120 by a generous Breathe Easy member.
FREE Buffet Lunch
Due to the General Election in May,
the Breathe Easy group meeting
was cancelled. Instead, the group got together for a FREE buffet lunch with entertainment , using funds donated in memory of Doreen McGavin.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and most people got dressed up for the occasion. Group members Ronnie and Andy did a great job entertaining the whole group (seen in the picture opposite) and Debbie and Keith played hosts - and provided the group with excellent food!
Raising awareness of lung health in Thanet
For 'World COPD Day' in November, Breathe
Easy Thanet ran two awareness tables at the local Tesco in conjunction with the community respiratory team, smoking cessation team and local Pfizer representatives.
The group had a very successful day and spoke to over 50 people about lung health, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a disease that affects an estimated 3.7 million people within the UK) and the Breathe Easy group. We also gave away balloons to children and pens to adults, which went down well and collected £77 for the group.
