More about the group
Breathe Easy Hertford hold successful awareness event
Breathe Easy Hertford had a very busy day in Cheshunt when they held an awareness stand at the local M&S. They were joined by respiratory nurse Jacqui Carrett who carried out a total of 59 lung function tests throughout the day, to help the group find some of the 'Missing Millions' of people estimated to suffer from undiagnosed COPD.
The group was delighted to be joined by Councillor Eddy Rowland, Mayor of Broxbourne, who is pictured here having his lung function tested by Jacqui. Janice Norfolk, Chairman of Breathe Easy Hertford, is also pictured, alongside M&S Branch Manager Nicholas Pucci.
Well done Breathe Easy Hertford!
Co-operative Biking in Aid of BE Hertford!
A group of co-operative staff were joined by two Breathe Easy group members to undertake a ten mile bike ride from Hertford's Sele Farm estate to Stanstead Abbotts. Between the eight of them, the team raised an amazing £2,000! The group chose to put the donation towards a mobile concentrator for the Hertford County Hospital.
A big Thank You to store manager Mr Subasinghe and his staff for taking the time and putting in the effort for our group!

BE Hertford receive 3 Awards from the BLF
Breathe Easy Hertford were delighted to be awarded an amazing three Breath of Fresh Air Awards by the British Lung Foundation. Congratulations to everyone in the group for this fantastic achievement!
The first award was for the group's outstanding contribution of £2000.00 that has been made to British Lung Foundation Projects over the past year.
The second award was for the group's outstanding contribution to awareness-raising and campaigning.
The group have put on many awareness-raising and fundraising events over the past year and managed to raise nearly £900 on one stand alone. In the photo opposite, members of the group can be seen with the Mayor, the local respiratory team and Philippa from the BLF, where they did spirometry lung-function tests for the general public.
In addition to having a newsletter and putting up posters to advertise the group, BE Hertford got 11 articles in the local paper and a local disability newsletter last year and have also worked with Herts County Council on the ‘air alerts’ scheme and collected around 400 signatures for the BLF Charter.
Janice in particular does an amazing amount of campaigning and influencing as a patient representative on the Respiratory Network Group and giving talks to pharmacy students and at pulmonary rehabilitation courses.
The third award was for Jacqui Carrett, the group's Healthcare professional, who won the award for Outstanding Healthcare in the Community. She really deserves this award for the key role she played in setting up pulmonary rehabilitation, from which BE Hertford formed. She continues to promote the group, draw in Primary Care Trust and hospital staff to speak at the BE Group and has also arranged a number of awareness days at the hospital.
E
quipment donated to local Respiratory Team
Breathe Easy Hertford were delighted to present £748 - worth of exercise equipment to the local pulmonary rehabilitation team, in order that those with chronic lung conditions in the local area can do monitored exercise to increase their lung capacity. This included a cross trainer and rowing machine. In the photo opposite, Respiratory Physio Millie can be seen trying them out!
