More about the group

Ash Vale Village Singers make sweet music for Breathe Easy

An afternoon of music and song in aid of Breathe Easy and the BLF took place in Guildford in February. This was initiated by Christien Grimley a member of BE Guildoford's committee and singer with the Ash Vale Village Singers. The singers gave a varied programme of folk music, with tea and cakes provided in the interval. This free event was thoroughly enjoyed by all and managed to raise £258 in generous donations.

BE Bear brings money to Guildford

BE Guildford Bear

As part of Breathe Easy Week, the group collected money outside of the local Sainsbury's supermarket, where they managed to raise £150.
Breathe Easy Guildford also held a raffle at the Pirbright Village Fair. The main prize was a Breathe Easy bear (pictured) through which we raised another £150! All in all the day was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day so successful.

Question Time for Guildford MP Anne Milton!

On 25 February, members of Breathe Easy Guildford had the opportunity to put questions to local MP, Anne Milton. The group raised concerns such as the treatment of patients at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and the availability of disabled badges for those with lung conditions. Anne then spoke to individuals around the group before drawing the raffle.

Guildford MP Anne Milton Feb 10Anne Milton has worked with Breathe Easy Guildford before on the successful campaign to save the Royal Surrey County Hospital and is an official friend of the group.

Carols, cakes and goodies

Our annual Christmas party has been hailed as 'the best yet'. With less formality than in the past meant that our invited guests could just join in the fun when they arrived. This enabled us more time for the Carol singing and with everyone in good voices we certainly raised the roof. With an abundance of sandwiches, sausage rolls, mince pies and cakes there was plenty to eat for everyone. The wine went down very well too!

Thanks must go to all who contributed to such a splendid afternoon.

Chairman at House of Commons Reception

On 18 November, the British Lung Foundation held a reception in the House of Commons on World COPD Day to raise awareness of lung diseases and the need for better treatment. Our Chairman, Annabelle Cribb, with her husband Paddy, was among half a dozen patients invited to attend and meet MPs and health care professionals.

There was a tea time reception, hosted by Kevin Barron MP and Health Minister Ann Keen also made a speech and told us that a new policy on the treatment of lung disorders should be ready for publication. All in all a great day and House of Commons staff were most helpful in meeting Annabelle with a wheelchair and taking her round.
