More about the group
Our group has gone from strength to strength in 2011 with new members arriving every month.
We’ve had an array of speakers, including members of several respiratory teams as well as more unusual things like Singing for Breathing. We have also been meeting once a month for a lunch group at various places from Indian and Chinese restaurants to carveries and public houses. It’s been great fun and has really cemented relationships within the group.
Here are some of the other things we’ve been getting up to.
Exercise Group
Our pulmonary rehabilitation follow on group have continued to meet every Tuesday at 12.00 o’clock at the Willesden Centre for Health and Care under the instruction of Machey, our instructor. Our group also featured on the Living Well with COPD DVD produced by the British Lung Foundation, giving practical advice about the self-management of COPD.
Breathe Easy Week
We ran 2 events in Breathe Easy Week.
At the first we spoke to a lot of people about Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, enrolled two new members and raised £80.
We also organised a sponsored skate board day. Bob Richardson sent his son, Alex, in a specially adapted wheel chair round the course. (Bob was too big to fit!) On that day, they raised another £90.
The rest of the group raised a huge £460, fuelled by the sweets the secretary donated to keep everyone happy!
A Brighton adventure
Some of our members went on an exploratory trip to Brighton where we hired 6 disability scooters for the day. The sight of 6 old people bombing it down the sea front in a race will stay in everyone's memories for a long time - what a laugh!
