Ashford and Tenterden celebrate one year of successes
BEAT celebrated their first birthday as a group with food and drink for all members. Allen Wells Mayor of Ashford (pictured with Ron Carden Vice Chairman) stopped in to congratulate them on a fantastic first year that has included fundraising events and three Breathe of Fresh Air Awards.
Raising Lung Awareness in Ashford
BE Ashford & Tenterden held a stall in the Main Square of the County Square Shopping Mall in Ashford. Breathe Easy was brought to a wider audience as the stall offered spirometry tests conducted by staff from the Community Respiratory Team, so that members of the public could have their breathing checked. Group member George attracted many children to the stand by making balloon animals. This eventful day attracted 40-50 people and two new group members.
Country and Western Night
Breathe Easy Ashford and Tenterden enjoyed some great dancing and music at their Country and Western Night, starring the singing star Rosie Horne (pictured opposite). The turnout was great (photo bottom right) and the dancing was enjoyed by everyone.
A big Thank You to everyone who helped as the event was such a success!
BEATing the winter blues!
BE Ashford and Tenterden was joined by the Mayor of Ashford, John Holland, as everyone enjoyed a great bring-and-share Christmas party, with a quiz and an auction. The room had been set up in a festive style, there was food in abundance and not one of the quiz teams scored 'nil point'!
Many group members braved ice and snow to enjoy lunch together at the new Three Chimneys. It was such a lovely event, as it was a great chance to get to know people better. All in all, it was a terrific day!
Group Celebrate Launch
Breathe Easy Ashford & Tenterden was officially launched in September 2009. The group was very privileged to have the attendance of Dr Morris, Dr Prathiba, Damien Green MP and the Mayors both for Ashford and Tenterden. The group was also fortunate to receive a cheque for £3,000 from Kent County Council which will go towards meeting costs.
In the photo opposite, the group's committee cut one of the three birthday cakes!
