News about previous meetings
The treasurer Patricia Gale opened the monthly meeting at Taunton Baptist Church on 16 Nov.
The guest speaker Nick Pearce from Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance gave an excellent presentation. It was interesting to learn that of the many talks given there is invariably someone in the audience who has been helped or knows someone who has been helped by the DSAA. We learnt that they do not receive any direct funding from the government or the National Lottery and rely solely on the generosity of the general public to help raise £1.4 million a year to keep flying, without the drive and dedication of the staff and volunteers the DSAA would not survive. We were all very impressed with the work they do.
BE Taunton continue to work hard, raising funds and awareness in their local community. They had a collection on the 1st & 2nd August at Sainsbury’s, on 11th August at Tesco, 8th September they had a stand at the Foundation Trust event at Taunton Racecourse, on 14th September the group attended Priorswood Community Project to raise awareness at the projects request and Chair Aidre had her usual talk at Pulmonary Rehab on 15th September.
The chair Aidre Puzey opened the monthly meeting at Taunton Baptist Church on 21 September. The guest speakers from Taunton Lung Centre were Sue Halford and Emily Johnstone and what an interesting informative talk they gave, explaining how the lungs function and what Bronchiectasis is. They told us of the many reasons and causes of damage to bronchial tubes. Great emphasis was placed on the people who have Bronchiectasis carrying out a daily routine of breathing exercises to clear the lungs.
Note* Anyone wishing to receive the group newsletter should let a committee member know, as this will help to save costs on printing and postage.
