New exercise class in the Forest of Dean

The Respiratory Rehab Class will be every Tuesday from 8th November at 11.30am at Mitcheldean Community Centre.

The class is circuit based, and suitable for all levels. Aimed at improving pulmonary performance postponing/halting pulmonary decline and reducing HELENA FOD FLOWERS.JPGbreathlessness, this class is suitable for all those suffering with disease under the C.O.P.D umbrella. The class will be open to all levels including those requiring oxygen therapy. Attendance at the class can only be through the referral scheme via the GP or Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team. There is an opportunity to socialise afterwards.

Once a client has been given a referral they are asked to book in for a short pre-activity assessment with me to ensure they are given the correct FOD HELENA SPEAKING.JPGintensity of exercise and to find out what they’re goals are. Appointments can be booked on 01594 812617. They will then have on-going assessments with me.

The exercise referral scheme costs £12 to join (or £6 if over 60 or on means tested benefits) and then each class is £2.50.

Launch News

Tuesday 17th May 2011 was the official launch of BLF Breathe Easy Forest of Dean, and what an event. A massive thanks to everyone on the committee who worked so hard to make the day such a success; Brenda, Geoff, John, Lyn, Sue and her husband Ivor and of course Vi, who arranged the cake, which was donated by Stacy Tobin from Staunton. John, BLF Volunteer, did a fantastic job organising the refreshments (Christine was in the kitchen making sure there was plenty of tea and coffee in her usual calm manner!)

Over 50 people attended, including Dr Andrew White, Chest Physician and Clinical Respiratory Lead, Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust; Kathy Cambell, Respiratory Specialist Practitioner; Mr Ceri Evans, former High Sheriff of Gloucestershire and his wife Sheila, and Councillor Atherley, who was standing in for the local Mayor. Also in attendance was Nick Thornley, BLF Ambassador, and members of BLF BE Tewkesbury, BLF BE Cheltenham (which is yet to start meeting officially) BLF BE Gloucester and Cotswolds (including Murray Watson, who is also a BLF Ambassador).

Special thanks go to Donna, BLF Nurse, who provides invaluable support for the group – she is always ready to help and has a smile for everyone.

New members are always very welcome, so please come along to this lively group – we’d love to see you.”
