BOFAA Winner
Congratulations to BE Birmingham South, who received a 2010-11 Breath of Fresh Air Award for Outstanding Contributions to BLF Projects. The group donated £500 towards research and £500 towards support for children with a lung condition and their families. Young Lungs
As the BLF’s Children’s Charter campaign continues, members of BE Birmingham South were spreading the word about young lung health at Colmer’s Farm Infant School. Maireade, Chas, Marlene, Pat and Anne were joined by Becky from the Midlands office, to talk to pupils about their lungs. Maireade Bird, Vice-chair of the group, writes:
BE Birmingham South’s school event for Year 6 children took place in June, for the fifth year running. The message this year was Love Your Lungs, with an emphasis on being active, eating healthily, taking care of your lungs and not smoking. This year we were asked many questions, some of them quite searching. The school and the children always make us most welcome and we thoroughly enjoy our time with them.
Garden Party Breathe Easy Week
Irene Hughes and family held a garden party for the 5th successive year and raised a total of £679.80 by a raffle, a table top sale, tombola and plant sale. An admission charge of £3 included a wonderful buffet, cake, mince pies and the usual refreshments. Thanks go to Irene and family for all their time and hard work in planning and hosting this event.
