More about the group
BOFAA Winner
Congratulations to BE Sleaford who were awarded a joint Breath of Fresh Air Award for Outstanding New Group, along with BE Gainsborough. Since their launch in March 2011, the group have held several fundraising and awareness raising events, and have promoted the group through talks at Pulmonary Rehab. Members of the group were presented with the award by Jeremy Bacon, Midlands Support and Development Manager, at the Lincoln network event.
Grimsthorpe Castle
The grand surroundings of Grimsthorpe Castle combined with a beautiful sunny day set the scene for BE Sleaford’s latest fund raising event. BE Sleaford joined a number of charities and organisations for the Family Festival, organised by the St John Ambulance. There was also a steady stream of visitors to the Tombola – encouraged by Peter dressed as a Mexican making everyone laugh with his Mexican wave, and Paul in a fetching red and white ‘Sonic the hedgehog’ outfit! The book stall offered a vast selection to suit all tastes and there were lots of bargains for avid readers.
The group’s stand raised £193 for the group. Many of the thousands of visitors at the event visited the stand and found out more about the group and support it offers to those affected by a lung condition. BBC Lincoln was at the event and as a result BE Sleaford are hoping to be interviewed
for its morning show.
Breathe Easy Week
Members of BE Sleaford took part in an eye-catching collection in Sleaford town centre. Chairman, Peter Sumpton, turned up in his pyjamas to help raise awareness of obstructive sleep apnoea, while group treasurer, Paul Underwood, drew plenty of attention with his bright outfit (pictured).
Breathe Easy Sleaford Launches!
Breathe Easy Sleaford held their official launch on Wednesday 9 March, 2011. There was a high turn out at the party, thanks to the committee’s hard work in publicising the event. Peter Sumpton, the group chair, welcomed members and visitors to the launch. Emma Holoweckyj and Catie Harvey from the British Lung Foundation joined local health care professionals in cutting the ribbon and declaring the group fully launched. The celebration was rounded off with tea, sandwiches and a lot of cake.
The new group is an important development for all those affected by lung conditions in the Sleaford area, and the group already have a packed programme of speakers and events for 2011.
