Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District is a support group for people affected by lung conditions inlcuding their friends, family and carers. Find out more on Breathe Easy.
The venue is light and airy, on the ground floor with easy access for everyone. Shunters Cafe is next to the meeting room where you can have a snack, full lunch, or just join other members for a chat before the meeting. Members' family, friends and carers are all welcome.

BE Nottingham Central & District visits local Mayor
Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District have recently had a meeting with their local Mayor, Councillor Patricia Andrews at Gedling Civic Centre. The group told the mayor about the group and its aims and were treated to tea and cake in the mayor’s parlour and taken on a tour of the Council Chambers.
Awareness raised at Sainsbury's
On 3 March 2012, 10 members of BE Nottingham Central & District were in Sainsbury's Arnold to raise awareness of lung disease, Breathe Easy and the British Lung Foundation. A collection on the day raised £248.50.
March 2012 Meeting
Ali Sutherland, BLF Nurse attended the meeting and gave the group a view of the new BLF DVD 'Living Well With COPD' . She also gave a talk on Self Management, finishing off with a question and answer session.
The group were delighted to welcome 7 new members to the meeting, 6 of whom had learnt about Breathe Easy at Pulmonary Rehabilitation, bringing BE Nottingham Central & District's membership total to 50. February 2012 Meeting

Members enjoyed a very informative talk from local nurses. Topics covered included About COPD, Pulmonary Rehablitation, Treatments, Better Breathing, Better Care and How to Store your Personal Information. The group is looking forward to the rest of the 2012 programme of speakers, which includes talks on Nutrition, Research into Lung Disease and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
Christmas party
Pictured right are members of Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District celebrating the festive season with their Christmas dinner at The Unicorn near Gunthorpe Bridge. The group raised £90 with their Christmas raffle and £187 with their Christmas hamper.
Doantion Success
Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District have been awarded £140 through the Waitrose green token scheme. Waitrose shoppers are given a token at the check-out which they can put in a box to indicate which of the nominated local charities they would like to receive a donation. Waitrose then split the money between the nominated charities, depending on how many tokens are in their box. Congratulations to Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District on their being awarded £140.
Fundraising Collection
Members of Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District braved the cold to collect £221.00 at Tescos in Carlton.
British Lung Foundation Donation
Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District have donated £500 to the British Lung Foundation. Over the course of last year, the group donated £700, half of which was spent on projects supporting children with a lung condition and their carers, and half of which was spent in training and supporting BLF nurses.
November meeting
The group enjoyed a talk by Maureen Newton called 'A Backward Glance'. Maureen brought along a display of artefacts from the past to accompany her talk.
Members were also invited to take a look at the Breathe Easy Nottingham Central & District 'market stall' that was displayed for other Breathe Easy groups to view at the at the Midlands network meeting in Loughborough.
Charity of the month
BE Nottingham Central & District have been selected as one of November's charity of the month by Waitrose, Trinity Square, Nottingham. If you live locally and shop here, you can help the group raise funds by putting your green tokens in the Breathe Easy tube on your way out.
October meeting
The Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services sent representatives from their Carlton Red Watch team to speak to BE Nottingham Central & District about keeping safe from fire. The presentation included advice on using smoke alarms, care with electrical equipment, creating a safety plan, and how to contact the emergency services.
September meeting
BE Nottingham Central & District welcomed Clare Selwood, who spoke to the group about recycling. She showed members how to read packaging labels, how to save on food waste, and explained what happens at recycling centres. The group were also shown what some of the things that can be produced from recycled materials - including handbags, pencils, and clothes.

Trip on the River Trent
On 8 August, members of BE Nottingham Central & District met up for a cruise along the River Trent. The group arrived at Farndon Boathouse for cappuccinos and coffees before boarding the St Johns Ambulance Crusador Boat. The day was rounded off with a meal at the Unicorn Hostelry.
June meeting
In June, BE North Nottingham were given a superb talk by BLF Nurse, Ali Sutherland. The talk was accompanied by demonstrations on the correct procedures for using various types of inhalers. Members thanked Ali for all the information she was able to provide about lung
conditions.
BE Week
On June 17th Breathe Easy North Nottingham held a fundraising and awareness day at Morrisons store in Netherfield for Breathe Easy Week.
The event was announced in the Nottingham Post, and many people came along to see volunteers from the group for information on respiratory problems and the support offered by Breathe Easy. This was the group’s most successful fundraising event to date, with a total of £304.12 raised. The group also gained two new members.

, along with Breathe Easy members, Jean Dodds, Mavis Burton, Woody Woodyatt, and Janet Tomlin. The group were joined by Tracey Smith and Althea Johnson (respiratory nurses) and Karen Chambers (physiotherapist), as well as British Lung Foundation development officer, Julie Hodder.
Pulmonary Rehab visit
Richard Cornish, from Breathe Easy North Nottingham recently made his first visit to Calverton Pulmonary Rehab to promote Breathe Easy. He is pictured here with the Park House Respiratory Team: Penny Cragg, Jerri-Ann Rafferty and Karen Garner.
Netherfield Eco Action Team Day
BE North Nottingham likes to support local events and on 28 May group members, Mavis, Cheryl, Paul (pictured right) and Richard visited the Netherfield Eco Action Team's (NEAT) day. Staff at NEAT were promoting water conservation. Members of the public took away lots of vegetable plants and 90 water butts, so that they could water the vegetables with rain water instead of tap water.
Visit to the Windmill Secret Garden
BE North Nottingham was invited by Groundwork to view their Windmill Secret garden. The garden enables people with all forms of disabillities to learn new gardening practises. Members of the group can be seen here

Happy Birthday!
Breathe Easy North Nottingham celebrated its 4 birthday in March with an outing to Laxton village. Highlights of the day incuded a film showing, a trip over the fields, viewing the farm houses, visiting Laxton church and the visitor centre, and admiring the old barn with its fabulous artifacts. The outing ended with a superb birthday lunch at the Farmhouse.
Fundraising for Pulmonary Rehab
Breathe Easy North Nottingham recently donated £300 to Nottingham North and East Cluster which enabled them to buy a much needed exercise bike for pulmonary rehab.
Jim Bennett, Richard Cornish, Janet Tomlin, Lorna Radzisz, Yan Klim and Mavis Burton from BE North Nottingham presented the donation to representatives from the North and East Cluster.
