BE Gainsborough has a new venue. From 14 November 2011, the group will meet at Pillard House, Primrose Street, Gainsborough, DN21 1HT

No Smoking Day 2012

Breathe Easy Gainsborough took part in No Smoking Day 2012 by holding a stall in Marshalls Yard, Gainsborough.

The group raised awareness of lung disease, Breathe Easy and the British Lung Foundation. They also made some useful contacts with other organisations in the local area who can offer some support and help to people living with lung disease.

BOFAA Winners

Congratulations to BE Gainsborough who have received a joint Breathe of Fresh Air Award for Outstanding New Group, with BE Sleaford. Since launching in March 2011, committee members have been promoting the group and the Breathe Easy support network widely. The group have organised awareness raising and fundraising events, and have submitted a successful grant application for £5,000. Collin Fletcher (Chair) collected the award at the Lincoln network meeting.

Birthday celebration!

On 6 October 2010 5 people turned up at a meeting after the BLF requested local volunteers to start a Breathe Easy Group in Gainsborough. A year later, and the group has grown to 25 members and 8 associates! The group’s birthday bash turned into a double celebration, following the recent presentation of a £5,000 grant from the Lincolnshire Co-operative. Camera crew from the Coop filmed the group at their birthday meeting. Ruth (Secretary), Collin (Chairman) and Mick(Treasurer) were interviewed, along with Nicola and Wendy, the Pulmonary Rehab nurses from John Coupland Hospital. The film will be shown at the Lincolnshire Co-op AGM with an explanation of why BE Gainsboroughone year on has been selected to receive the grant.

Fundraising update

Mick Ward, Treasurer of BE Gainsborough, has set himself the target of collecting his weight in coppers, to raise money for the group. BE members can support Mick by donating spare 1p and 2p coins.

New venue

Breathe Easy Glenfield are looking forward to moving into their new venue at Pillard House on Primrose Street. From 14 November meetings will be held on the second Monday of the month, at the new time of 2.30-4.30pm. New members are always welcome!donation celebration

Grant awarded

Riverside Festival

BE Gainsborough held an awareness raising stand at the Riverside Festival in Lincolnshire. Staff from John Coupland Hospital Pulmonay.

spirometry tests

Rehab were on hand to offer spirometry testing to members of the public. Volunteers provided information about Breathe Easy and managed to raise £173.

Fundraising success

Anna Krynicka, a Pulmonary Rehab nurse from John Couplan Hospital, has raised £200 for Breathe Easy Gainsborough by taking part in a sponsored run. Anna completed the Woodlands Spa 10k road race in 56 minutes. Group members celebrated with Anna at the Ferry House Inn, where they enjoyed a fabulous meal.

BE Gainsborough lunch

On 11 March Breathe Easy Gainsborough held their official launch. 20 group members, plus the group’s committee, were joined by Cllr Tim Davies, Mayor of Gainsborough, and staff from the British Lung Foundation’s Midlands Office. Jeremy Bacon, BLF Support & Development Manager, welcomed the group to the Breathe Easy network and congratulated the members on the progress they have made in setting up the group. The Mayor gave a speech where he highlighted the importance of the Breathe Easy group for people in Gainsborough who are affected by lung disease. The group then enjoyed a buffet and some celebration cake.
