Will personalised treatment plans help patients with asthma and COPD?

Professor Martyn Partridge, Professor of Respiratory Medicine, Imperial College London

Many lung conditions do not have a cure. However, there are often treatments available which can ease and control symptoms and increase quality of life. Most of these treatments, such as asthma inhalers or pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD, require the patient to be vigilant in using their treatment most effectively. With a debilitating disease to live with, it is not always easy to do this.

Professor Partridge and his team intend to use this grant to devise a simple, computer-based package that will help patients to make the most out of their treatment. This package will be used by a healthcare professional to provide individual patients with a simple, graphic explanation of their treatment plan that they can take home with them and follow.
