British Lung Foundation welcomes appointment of respiratory clinical champion - 23/4/2008

It has been announced today that the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) will appoint a clinical champion to focus on respiratory disease. The post will begin later this year for a duration of 2 – 3 years.

Last year, The British Lung Foundation supported the proposal for a clinical champion for respiratory disease to be appointed at the RCGP. Currently there are clinical champions in other fields including patient safety, palliative care and mental health. The role of respiratory clinical champion will be to raise the standards of care in respiratory medicine.

‘The British Lung Foundation welcomes the appointment of a respiratory clinical champion at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)’ said Dame Helena Shovelton, Chief Executive of the British Lung Foundation.

‘This is an important time with the National Service Framework of COPD being implemented later this year and this appointment will contribute to the future success of the framework.’
