‘Borat’ London Marathon runner Richard Jelfs revealed the secret of his success today, hours after he raised £2000 for the British Lung Foundation by braving the elements in a mankini inspired by the fictional Kazakhstan news reporter.
“I carried a pot of Vaseline round with me to deal with the chafing on my nipples and other parts”, says Jelfs. “There wasn’t much room for the charity’s branding on my outfit so I wrote British Lung Foundation on my body with a felt pen”.
Project Manager Jelfs, 29, received the outfit for Christmas from his workmates. They agreed to sponsor his fundraising attempt for the British Lung Foundation only if he wore the mankini.
British Lung Foundation Events Organizer Caroline Jennings said: “Sponsorship and donations to the BLF shot up when Richard publicized his marathon mankini on Facebook. His outfit was so skimpy we couldn’t work out where to put the British Lung Foundation branding but the felt pen did the job just as well!”
“The crowd was amazing”, says Jelfs: “I wore a black bin liner over my costume at the start and as soon as I ran over the start line I ripped it off and the crowd just went wild!”
We would like to say thank you and well done to everyone who ran the marathon in aid of the British Lung Foundation.
