An X-factor contestant has been diagnosed with bronchiectasis after judge Simon Cowell said she had a strange rasp in her voice and advised her to see a doctor.

Jacqui Gray, 46, went to a throat specialist the day after performing ‘Something Inside So Strong’ last weekend.

The mother-of-two from Sunderland was sent to hospital where a scan showed a shadow on her lungs.

In interviews with several newspapers, Jacqui said: “I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis and told if I had not got it seen to, it could have killed me.

“Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne saved my life and I would just like to thank them.”

Simon Cowell, 47, told the Daily Mail: “Although Jacqui obviously wasn’t happy with what I said at the time, thank God I said it.

“Fame is one thing but your health is so much more important than anything else.”
