The British Lung Foundation's helpline, which has supported almost 9,000 people in the last year alone, has been awarded Telephone Helpline Association accreditation. The helpline offers support, information and advice to the 1 in 7 people across the UK who live with a lung condition and to those who care for them. Staffed by a range of specialist staff including respiratory nurses, benefits advisers and counsellors the Helpline offers a range of support services that make a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people every year.
By achieving the Telephone Helpline Association quality standard the BLF Helpline has proved that the service it delivers, from how it is publicised to how calls are answered, is of the highest quality.
Those who have used the helpline have consistently been pleased with the service which has been shown to help cut down the isolation often felt by people with lung disease.
One BLF helpline caller said: "The support I have received has been nothing short of marvellous and has helped me tremendously".
Those who work for the helpline are very pleased to have been awarded the accreditation. However, it is the support they are able to give people that really makes their jobs worthwhile:
Tracey Newton, BLF Helpline Specialist Advisor said: “Talking to the people who call us makes my job enjoyable and fulfilling."
BLF Advice Service Manager, Mark Pilling, adds: “I am really pleased that we have achieved the accreditation as it demonstrates what a good quality service we provide.
“It also recognises the commitment and hard work of the Helpline staff who work hard to provide the best service they can to people living with a lung condition. Anyone contacting the Helpline can be reassured that we are providing a good quality service for them.”
