Health Minister meets Breathe Easy group to mark World COPD Day

15/11/2007

Ann Keen MP

Health Minister Ann Keen MP visited the British Lung Foundation’s Islington Breathe Easy group to mark World COPD Day on November 14.

Members of the support group got the chance to ask the Minister questions at their awareness raising event at University College Hospital in London.

Staff from Islington PCT’s respiratory team also carried out lung function tests for members of the public and offered advice on how to stop smoking.

Nearly 2,500 people died of COPD in London in 2006 with the disease killing more people than breast and prostate cancer combined in the capital.

The British Lung Foundation campaign for World COPD Day 2007 is focused on finding the estimated 2.8 million people in the UK living with undiagnosed COPD and encouraging people in at-risk groups to ask their GP for a lung function test.
