The British Lung Foundation and Islington NHS held a ‘Love Your Lungs’ campaign throughout September 2009 to alert Islington residents to the symptoms of a common lung disease called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Why Islington?
Islington was targeted after research showed that COPD is a particular problem in the area with 6,619 people estimated to have the condition.
The BLF was keen to reach people who are unaware of the early symptoms which include breathlessness and a persistent cough. We therefore ran two events offering the public free lung function tests.
Key statistics – Lung Function Testing Events
315 residents of Islington received a free lung function test
