Interstitual Lung Disease

The British Lung Foundation is campaigning for more research to be funded for interstitial lung diseases and for more specialist nurses to care for people who suffer from them.

Over the past 20 years, The British Lung Foundation has invested over £18 million on supporting research across all 43 different lung conditions. It is however essential that this good work is complemented by more Government funding into lung disease in order to reduce the great discrepancy between the money spent on research into lung diseases in relation to their prevalence and burden.

Fabian Hamilton MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) which asks the Government to pay particular attention to interstitial lung diseases, a broad category of lung diseases that are characterised by scarring (i.e. fibrosis) and / or inflammation of the lungs. He says that more money should be spent on research for interstitial lung diseases and that many more nurses need to be trained to give specialist care for people with these conditions.

The British Lung Foundation is asking other MPs to sign this EDM and to call on the Government to ensure patients now and in the future to have access to better treatment and care.

To get involved in this campaign you can email your MP to ask them to sign this EDM.
