For Employees
Payroll Giving is an incredibly tax efficient way to donate. Every time you are paid your payroll department will deduct the amount you agree on and send it to us. The Government will then make up the tax component of your donation.
For example, if you agree to give £1 a month the breakdown would be:
- If you are a basic rate taxpayer (20%) you pay 80p and the Government pays 20p.
- If you are a higher rate taxpayer (40%) you pay 60p and the Government will top this up with another 40p.
You can choose to give as much as you like, simply tell your payroll department. This means that the British Lung Foundation will have reliable income to plan for the future and effectively budget for long term projects.
Please set up Payroll Giving by speaking to your Payroll Department now.
For Employers
Payroll giving is great for business. It shows that you are committed to working in partnership with the community, which is something that is important to both your customers and your staff.
Payroll giving is easy and inexpensive to run. All you need to do is to make the deduction from your employee's pay before tax, then pass it over to an Inland Revenue Approved Payroll Giving Agency and they do the rest.
Here are some tips as to how you can make your payroll giving scheme a success.
- Make sure your employees know about the scheme- promote in newsletters, the intranet, or nominate an employee to promote it for you.
- Give all your staff a payroll giving form.
- Include Payroll giving in new starters induction pack.
