In honour

Celebrating? Have all the presents you need? If you are celebrating a wedding, birthday or anniversary and would like to make your special day mean a great deal to people living with lung conditions in the UK, then why not ask your friends and family to donate to the British Lung Foundation, in lieu of buying you a present? How many toasters and cake forks do you really need?

Laura Holroyd, Hertfordshire

'When I turned 21 last year I decided to ask my friends and family to donate to the British Lung Foundation in lieu of giving me a birthday present. My grandfather had died the previous winter from complications with his emphysema and it seemed a fitting tribute. As the eldest of the grandchildren I was close to him and stayed with my mum in the hospital until he passed away.

My granddad had given up smoking at 50 but was still affected by its terrible consequences and I don't want other people to suffer the same way. The impact of seeing him die has stayed with me and I feel very strongly that research into lung disease and help for those who need it is provided for everyone, which is why I chose to support the British Lung Foundation.'

Would you like to honour a loved one?

It’s very simple to set up a Breath of Life Fund in honour of a loved one living with a lung condition. We really value gifts in honour of a loved one and we would feel privileged to establish a Breath of Life Fund in your friend or relative’s honour. A celebration gift can show you care about everyone living with a lung condition and help us raise general awareness.
