BLF web community guidelines
You may be new to our Web Community therefore we have put together the following guidelines to hopefully make the whole process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible.
- You are responsible for the content of your messages so please think carefully before you post anything that may offend another person. Remember that whatever you post on the Community can be seen by more than those who join the community.
- Communicating with people through the Web Community is obviously not the same as talking to someone over the telephone or face to face. So sometimes what a person says on the Web Community does not come across the way it was intended. It can be too easy to overreact to some of the responses to your comments.
- If you get annoyed or upset about anything, take a break before you respond. Do something else and then come back and think about how to word your reply.
- Typing in capital letters is generally considered as shouting – if you want to emphasise a point use italics.
- When you first join a discussion, say hello and introduce yourself. Hopefully you will receive a warm welcome from other regular users, and if you decide to return on a regular basis you will be as equally welcoming.
- Don’t copy and paste information from other websites onto the Community, this could lead to problems with breach of copyright. Instead explain briefly what you have found and then create a link to the information you are referring to.
- Only post your message in one part of the Community – don’t post it in several places to try and get as much a response as possible. One of the Community moderators will make sure your post is in the most appropriate place.
- Living with a lung condition is a different experience for everyone. How a person copes with their condition is individual to them. So please respect what a person has to say about how their condition affects them and what they do to cope.
- Information posted on the Web Community cannot replace expert advice given by a healthcare professional. What works for you may not work for others so please do not give people direct advice.
