The British Lung Foundation is pleased to announce that it has taken up the service of BrowseAloud, as part of our commitment to reducing accessibility barriers to people visiting the BLF website.
BrowseAloud is a text-to-speech solution that reads all accessible website content aloud in a high quality human sounding voice which can be altered to suit the individual’s specific needs. As the online content is read aloud, words are highlighted; a useful tool which aids literacy and comprehension.
Website visitors who may have literacy difficulties, dyslexia, mild visual impairments, or for those with English as a second language will now be able to access the online services with greater ease and confidence.
BrowseAloud has undergone some exciting new changes since the last release; users can now access all the BrowseAloud features with a floating toolbar which includes a talking dictionary, the ability to convert online text to MP3 and a screen masking facility which benefits those with certain visual impairments and learning difficulties.
Other new features include a Translation tool; allowing for single word translations in English, French, Spanish, German or Italian.
Web Editor at the British Lung Foundation, Richard Bloomfield says “It is vital that our website is accessible to everyone. BrowseAloud will help the British Lung Foundation to ensure that over eight million people who are affected by a lung condition and their carers receive the same information and support from our website.”
Ian Stuart, UK Sales Manager for BrowseAloud, adds, “We are delighted to have the British Lung Foundation on board. They join the growing number of organisations who are committed to making online accessibility a reality with our BrowseAloud service.”
