Commissioning Excellence in COPD

COPD GuideIn 2010, the Department of Health's Consultation on a Strategy for Services for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease was published.

When the new National Clinical Strategy for COPD in England is implemented, health care providers will be judged on how effectively they respond to this chronic respiratory condition. The strategy does not define how each aspect of care should be delivered, however, the British Lung Foundation have produced a guide to provide you with support about how to commission an effective COPD service and how the British Lung Foundation can help you achieve this.

The guide includes information on the following areas:

  • The financial benefits to contribute to the QIPP agenda
  • A self assessment of current COPD services
  • Population-based prevention health benefits for the patients quantified in the quality of life years (QALYs)
  • Expert Patients/Self Care Support
  • Local care pathways
  • Demonstration of commissioning excellence across effective and evidenced care pathways
