Professor David Lomas PhD ScD FRCP FMedSci
David received his medical degree from the University of Nottingham in 1985 and then worked as a junior doctor in Nottingham and Birmingham before moving to Cambridge as an MRC Training Fellow. He undertook his PhD at Trinity College Cambridge and then secured a second fellowship as an MRC Clinician Scientist. In 1994 he was appointed as a University Lecturer at the University of Cambridge and in 1998 he was elected to the tenured Professorship of Respiratory Biology.
He has been an Honorary Consultant Physician at Addenbrooke’s and Papworth Hospitals since 1994 and was appointed Deputy Director of the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research in 2002. David is the Director of the Biomedical Research Centre and Wellcome Trust PhD programmes for clinicians at the University of Cambridge and Director of a 4 year basic science PhD programme at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. David’s research interests are focused on the pathobiology of 1-antitrypsin deficiency, the serpinopathies and COPD.
