Working with us

We’re a small team working to overcome the huge challenge of increasing respiratory health across Scotland and Northern Ireland and supporting all those affected by lung disease. Quite simply, we couldn’t do it without your help. We’re hugely grateful for all the support that we receive from BLF members, BLF Breathe Easy Groups and members of the public. The more you can support us, the better we can support you.

How can you help us?

Support for the BLF can take many forms. Often it’s financial, but it can take many other forms too. Here’s an idea of some of them. But please do contact us if there’s something else that you think may help us. We’re always keen to hear new ideas.

  • Fundraising events – from marathons to fun runs and from coffee mornings to sponsored silences there’s no end to the types of events that people have participated in to raise funds for the BLF. Go to our events page or contact Fiona McEwen for details of all our on-going events or to suggest an event of your own.
  • Become a member of the BLF – join the BLF to support our work receive regular updates on the latest issues and developments in respiratory medicine and patient support services.
  • 'Breath of Life’ memorial fund – one of the most touching aspects of our work is the support we receive from family and friends of people who have died from lung disease whether as a one-off gift or as part of an ongoing ‘Breath of Life’ fund.
  • Volunteering – we can never have too much help. This can take many forms and can be tailored to your own time, location and background. It could take the form of working within the office in the centre of Glasgow or helping a BLF Breathe Easy Group in your local area on a monthly basis. A little extra help from you could make a huge difference for the people we support.
  • BLF Ambassadors – we’re always looking to make new enlist the support of new ‘friends’ and advocates across Scotland and Northern Ireland who would be willing to support the work of the BLF and the importance of respiratory medicine and health in their local area. These BLF Ambassadors play a key role in delivering our messages to a nationwide audience and informing us of emerging issues at local level. We’d love to hear from you if you think you could work with us in this way.
  • Patient voices – the BLF is the single most important source of respiratory ‘patient voices’ across the UK. This can take the form of influencing emerging health policies to ensure that they’re patient-centred in their development and delivery. Alternatively it can be working in partnership with the BLF to highlight respiratory stories in the press or within our campaigns. Whether you’re a BLF or Breathe Easy member or a patient or carer you could play a vital role in highlighting how lung conditions impact upon real people on a day-to-day basis.
  • Expert advisors – we’re constantly working with some of the nation’s leading experts in respiratory medicine, public health and support services. We rely upon the advice and information that they can provide as it helps us offer the most accurate and up-to-date information to the people we support. Please contact us if you think you could support our work in this way.
